Economic espionage is a serious threat to corporations and the business traveler. Perpetrators of crimes are competitors, opportunists or foreign intelligence officers. In many countries, domestic corporations collect competitive intelligence with the help and support of their government. To mitigate this risk, critical information and technologies should be protected. The U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigation will provide valuable information to promote good security habits that will help protect you and your companies. We will discuss updates and resources as well as IP protection at trade shows, cybersecurity for the business traveler and best practices for collaborating with foreign partners.

This workshop will discuss measurements known as "Key Performance Indicators" (KPIs) that are needed to be defined and monitored to successfully run your business. Just like a doctor who uses data to assess your health, you need data as a business owner to assess and guide your business. The workshop starts by characterizing a small business and defining the various stages of launching, stabilizing and growing the small business. The core discussion will be on what are the internal and external KPIs that a business owner needs to monitor, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually. Examples are Organization KPIs, People KPIs, Process KPIs, Financial KPIs, Planning KPIs, Sales/Marketing KPIs.
