Chicago Winter Overnight Parking Ban is Active from Dec, 1st through April 1st

Chicago’s winter overnight parking ban is going into effect.

The seasonal parking restriction consumes 107 miles of the city’s most critical arterial streets from 3:00am – 7:00 am and is active from December 1, 2013 through April 1, 2014.
The parking ban is enforced regardless of snow. Click HERE for a map.
The 2-inch snow parking ban is activated on another 500 miles of arterial streets when at least two inches of snow are present. Click HERE for a map.
Cars violating the parking ban will face a minimum $150 towing fee, a $60 ticket and a storage fee of $20 per day, according to city officials.
Owners of towed vehicles can find their vehicle location online or call 311. You will need to know your license plate number, location of vehicle and date towed. Operator will inform caller of the location of the city pound that has the vehicle. If you have questions regarding your towed vehicle, for more information click here.

Chicago Shovels

Chicago is strongest when people, government and business work together in the face of adversity, challenges, and even Mother Nature. Chicago Shovels is a tool to help connect the public with City winter resources and empower neighbors to come together to help Chicago navigate winter.
Last winter, The Mayor's Office unveiled Chicago Shovels, an interactive website designed for residents to access information and lend a hand in snow-clearing efforts. At chicagoshovels.org, people can see the locations of snow plows in real-time and sign up for Snow Corps to help the city's most vulnerable citizens by shoveling their walkways.
Snow Corps, part of Chicago Shovels, is the program that connects volunteers with residents in need of snow removal. The response from volunteers was strong last winter and this year we'd like to help empower snow efforts in our ward. Together, we can ensure that each and every Chicagoan who is in need can have access to walking and transit.

Business and Residents are Responsible for Removing Snow and Ice from the Sidewalks During the Winter

Chicago businesses have a responsibility in removing snow and ice from the sidewalks. Many people rely on walking and transit as their primary mode of transportation, and without a wide, clear path through snow and ice, travel is especially difficult for people with disabilities, seniors, and children to walk safely. According to the Municipal Code of Chicago (4-4-310 & 10-8-180), property owners and occupants are responsible for keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice.

From more information on sidewalk snow removal guidance for residents and businesses, CLICK HERE. Report property owners who DO NOT clear their sidewalks by making a "Snow - Uncleared Sidewalk" request with the City of Chicago 311 Service Request line. Dial 311 or click on Online Snow - Uncleared Sidewalk Request. Additionally, the City's snow plow tracker will be available during major snow events. During snow storms, the City's snow plows are constantly tracked, so you, your business and your customers know when the streets around your business have been cleared.
